MBA Idea No.2: Rent out room, fund vacation
Airbnb turns unoccupied living space into instant Bread and Breakfast lodging. Reservations happen just like a hotel.
Example: Andrew works at home in San Francisco with roommates. When he travels, e.g. for July 4th weekend, he rents out his empty room to cover the cost of his plane ticket. His girlfriend does the same as they travel together.
Airbnb subsidizes the cost of Andrew’s massive Mission street apartment: “there’s no way I could live here without AirBnB”
Airbnb is funded by YCombinator and founded by a Harvard CS grad and two BFAs from the Rhode Island School of Design.
